My name is Emily Syme and I am from Broad Brook, CT. I am a junior majoring in Sustainable Plant and Soil Sciences with a concentration in Sustainable Agriculture and minoring in Business Management and Marketing. I always knew I wanted to pursue a career in agriculture. I grew up on my family’s farm where we grow Christmas Trees, greenhouse crops, and cut flowers. I raise and show Holstein dairy cattle which has given me the opportunity to travel and connect with other passionate agriculturists. I am a 4th generation 4-Her which is where I became familiar with UConn CAHNR and knew this was the place I wanted to continue my higher education! The past three summers I have interned at the CT Agricultural Experiment Station Valley Lab which gave me hands-on research experience. On campus I am the Treasurer of Dairy Club and Social Media Coordinator for the Horticulture Club. I work for UConn Extension throughout the school year which has given me the opportunity to see all the great work that Extension does. I live and work at the Kellogg Dairy Center on campus and am on the UConn Dairy Judging Team! In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family and friends and working with my Holstein dairy cows. My favorite ice cream at the dairy bar is Chocolate Peanut Butter Swirl!
